About
I am an artist working across abstract modernist painting, illustration, and experimental moving image.
My practice moves between minimal, restrained compositions and richly textured, energetic, and psychedelic forms, embracing contrast as a central creative principle. This duality reflects my lived experience over the past two decades, shaped by a career in fast-paced graphic design studios in Auckland and Melbourne, followed by a relocation to the slower, more contemplative environment of the Northern Rivers. I am drawn equally to space and intensity, stillness and motion, and these opposing forces inform both my studio practice and the work itself.
Music plays a critical role in my creative process, shaping the emotional and conceptual direction of each piece. Sound influences my mindset from the beginning to the end of the working day, allowing intuitive decisions to emerge beyond conscious planning. The artists and producers I am drawn to demonstrate a strong sensitivity to tone, rhythm, and space — qualities that directly inform my approach to composition, balance, and atmosphere in painting.
Having spent much of my professional life as an art director and graphic designer, visual art functions as a personal and expansive outlet. It is a space free from commercial constraint, where intuition leads, process is paramount, and experimentation is actively encouraged.
